Agios Konstantinos / Palea Enklistra.
This is a hidden gem just outside Koukliα. It is hollowed out of a cliff and is the
Byzantine cave-hermitage of Palea Enklistra. The grotto and its frescoes are mid-15th century.
Although the faces of the figures were mutilated in the 1960s, allegedly by shepherds from
the neighbouring village of Souskiou thereby diminishing their impact, it is still
emphatically worthwhile making the trip.
Be aware that if you wish to view the grotto and its frescoes from the inside,
you will need to obtain the key from the administrators
in the village of Koukliα.
