General Information
Electricity 240 volts; Same as UK, sockets are 13 amp square pin type. Driving Cyprus drives on the left. The speed limit on motoways is 100 km/h (62 mph), and you may see speed cameras along your route.
The speed limit on ordinary roads is 80 km/h (50 mph), and in built up areas it is 50 km/h (31 mph). Distances are shown in km and direction signs usually appear in both English and Greek.
Please note that seat belts are compulsory, the use of mobile phones whilst driving is strictly prohibited and children under 5 are not permitted to sit in the front. Drivers must be over 21. Also note that fixed and mobile speed cameras are becoming widely used by the police in Cyprus.
Currency Cyprus adopted the Euro on 1st January 2008. Currency exchange available at Banks and shops. You will generally get a better rate locally than in the UK.
Banks Cypriot banks provide full banking services and accept all major cards. ATMs are widely available. Opening hours are:
    May-September - Mon-Fri 08.15-13.30
    October-April - Mon-Fri 08.30-13.30 & Mon 15:15-16:45
In tourist areas, special branches often provide an afternoon service.
Shopping Shop opening hours are usually 8am - 6pm but with ½-days on Wednesday & Saturday. Most shops are closed on Sunday with the exception of most kiosks. There are supermarkets, chemists, clothes shops (including Debenhams and Next in Paphos) etc.. Medical Medical facilities are provided through National Health-run general hospitals in all resort towns. Emergencies for tourists are free. There are private clinics which which charge to cater for all medical needs. Ensure you carry your insurance policy with you. Some chemists remain open all night on a rota basis.
